Alec Baldwin spoke about the deadly Las Vegas shooting at Friday’s annual Town Hall in Iowa, the Ames Tribune reports .

The “Saturday Night Live” star voiced his support for gun control laws.

“I think we just have to, you know, I personally believe if you want to bring a gun to work, bring a gun to work with you, like a BB gun, with you,” he said during the town hall. “You don’t have a long gun, you’re a criminal.”

Baldwin has been a staunch advocate for gun control in the wake of the Vegas shooting. On Sunday, he tweeted, “It’s why I believe in paying for retraining of retired law enforcement and first responders, as well as veterans.”

“If we re-instituted a mandatory 5 year waiting period to buy a gun, we would actually save lives,” Baldwin tweeted.

An ABC report issued last week examined the connection between mental illness and gun violence and found, “the most common predictors of gun violence are mental illness, socioeconomic instability and a history of domestic violence. More than 20% of mass shooters in the past decade have a diagnosis of mental illness.”

Baldwin added on Friday that, “we can say, in my opinion, [guns are] more likely to kill cops than they are to kill us. That was not true for us 10 years ago.”

In an interview with Piers Morgan last month, Baldwin lamented why he has never been given an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Donald Trump on “SNL.”

“Well, I think on the one hand it’s hard to compete with Sean Spicer,” he told Morgan. “I mean, those days are long gone. But if you’re also competing against Sean Spicer — just the fact that he was so fun, the appearances he made — and now he’s gone.

“It’s hard to take over the mantle of Sean Spicer and Trump at the same time, so I’m not surprised, I’m not overjoyed by not being nominated. I think I would have been an easy choice. I’m not the greatest actor in the world, and I’m not supposed to be that — nobody looks at me and goes, ‘He’s the greatest actor in the world.’ But I would have made a great Oscar-nominated Trump, and it would have been a surprise. So I wish I was nominated.”

Baldwin was filming the HBO series “Mission Control” at the time of the Las Vegas shooting. He told Morgan that everyone was in a state of shock and the sets were being made as a group.
