A collision between two trains in Salisbury caused several injuries late Thursday, officials said. The rail line’s mayor says four people were critically injured and 25 injured, CNN reported.

“My initial assessment is that a train derailed causing a power cut and the emergency services are responding rapidly,” Mayor Stephen Jones said in a statement.

“It is believed that there are a number of casualties on board, there are currently about 120 people trapped on board who are either on the train itself or in the tunnel where the accident occurred.

“Fortunately there is currently no evacuation taking place and there are no reports of fatalities.”

Both eastbound and westbound trains were involved in the collision, according to the BBC. There was a power outage after a train hit overhead wires, officials said.

The driver of the train that hit the wires is in a serious condition in the hospital, Jones said. The driver of the train that crashed was taken to a hospital with a broken leg.

A bus is taking people in the area back to their homes, Mayor Jones said.

“At this time, our priority is the safety of people who are inside the tunnels and that is why there are no plans to evacuate people. We hope the scene can be clear and we can get the station back up and running by the morning,” he said.
